Uncertainty and anxiety can be a real problem for some people. It’s seemingly human nature to want to know what’s going to happen and to always feel in control. It’s something I’ve struggled with in my life, as I’m very analytical. Giving everything over to God and putting everything in his hands can seem like surrender at first. But it’s actually quite the opposite. Surrendering to Jesus is freedom. It frees you from the burdens you hold in the your heart and the constant worry you feel for the future, and opens your life up to what God has in store.
I signed up for this mission trip to not only do good works for a community in need, but also to give myself the opportunity to fellowship with a group of believers and to let God work in my heart for a while without the distractions of the world.
I came in knowing I was going to be the odd man out, so to speak. I knew we were going to be in two groups and that one group were all from the same church and that my group would consist of a youth group and myself. I was a little apprehensive picturing how I was going to fit in with these youths. But as I got to know them all and they me, we discovered things about the other, and we really bonded. I really can’t imagine a better group of young adults. I know that if they continue to trust in the Lord, that he is going to do awesome things in their lives.
The week went so great and I’ll cherish it for the rest of my life. The experience not only grew my faith, it allowed me to meet some outstanding people, and to hear some amazing testimonies of God’s awesome power from some true believers who, by His saving grace, survived the tornadoes.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
