On our first morning, we gathered to receive our work options for the day.  We listened as each need was shared and described.  We didn't know in advance what our day would bring, we were to told to listen for God to lead us.  Midway through the list of options, I knew.  A local library needed flower beds completed.  We were told the library staff didn't feel supported, but would appreciate help.

Well, we are "library people".  When my 2 kids were young, we would go to the library often, and we have benefitted greatly from the library.  My kids received books as reward for good report cards, and books are precious to each of us.  Sharing books with my kids is a joy to me.

Last year I returned to work after 16  years at home with my kids.  After a stint as a substitute school teacher I was so blessed to be hired full time as the library assistant in our high school.  It was a perfect job for me, as it kept me close to my kids, close to home, and I was able to work in my favorite place, the library.

Hearing that a librarian didn't feel supported was like a pang of physical pain to me.  Hearing that I could serve in this way was so exciting!  I signed up right away for the library task.

Three of us signed up.  A teenage girl, my teenage son, and myself.  We met the librarian and her assistant.  They were both lovely and so pleased to have our help.  They had 2 flower beds dug out, and had the flowers, topsoil, and pine straw.  The task wasn't complicated.  We completed one bed in the morning, and then after lunch another teenage boy signed on and we completed the other bed in the early afternoon.  It was the first time I had ever done any gardening.  (My husband handles the outside chores.)  It was such a privilege for me to do that work for the library. I would have been happy to do anything for anyone, but something about serving the library was extra special. It was a labor of love, done with a cheerful heart.
